Part I: Why Shared Custody is Good for Your Kid - And for You, Too!

Are you recently separated or divorced? Are you wondering if sharing custody is a smart choice for your family?

In this three-part series, we’ll take a look at some powerful reasons that sharing physical custody is healthy for your child, healthy for you, and healthy for your parent-child relationship.

Healthy Kids. Happy Kids.

As parents, our goal is always to help our kids thrive. And sharing physical custody has been found to produce healthier and happier youngsters.

“In one Swedish study, children of separated parents who share physical custody are less likely to be stressed,” reports the Children and Family Blog.

And it doesn’t stop there. Children who spend ample time in two homes actually perform better in school, are less likely to engage in risky behavior as teens, have stronger relationships with friends and family, and are healthier emotionally.

“We now have more than 50 studies of joint physical custody,” says an article in StatNews, “...children who spend at least 35 percent time with each parent… do better academically, socially, and psychologically.”

When Your Kid Thrives. You Thrive.

It is easier, less stressful, more rewarding, and even more cost-effective in the long-term to parent a child who is thriving and successful, rather than a child who is stressed and unhappy.

As studies continue to demonstrate, sharing custody with a co-parent will give your kid a boost, and in turn, you’ll get a boost too!

Summary of Part II and III: Part two of this series will discuss benefits to your parent-child relationship, and part three will discuss benefits to you.
